Thimmammamarrimanu, the largest tree specimen in the world.

Unpronounceable by nature, Thimmammamarrimanu was recorded as the largest tree specimen in the world in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1989. Funnily enough, it was located not very far from the city where I was living - and volunteering - in India from July 2015 until July 2016: Anantapur.

On a Sunday morning, the only day off we had during the week, some other volunteers and I decided to go there to see that tree with our own eyes. While we had expected to see a huge tree, the truth is that the Thimmammamarrimanu looks like a dozen trees together because it's very difficult to see its origin, its main stem.

Of course, taking into account that it's India we're talking about, there is a legend and there are some religious beliefs about the tree (as I have made clear on several occasions, Indian people are very superstitious), but our main interest was the tree itself and its magnificence. 

That day we also visited the city of Kadiri, but that I will post some other day. Today, I will let you enjoy the natural landscape surrounding the tree by seeing the pictures below.

Thimmammamarrimanu, el árbol más grande de mundo.

Impronunciable por naturaleza, el Thimmammamarrimanu fue reconocido como el árbol más grande del mundo en el Libro Guinness de los Récords en el año 1989. Y, por divertido que parezca, no está muy lejos de la ciudad india donde estuve viviendo y haciendo un voluntariado desde julio de 2015 hasta julio de 2016: Anantapur.

Un domingo por la mañana, el único día libre que teníamos, algunas otras voluntarias y yo decidimos ir allí y verlo con nuestros propios ojos. No obstante, aunque esperábamos encontrarnos con un árbol enorme, lo que nos encontramos fue con que el Thimmammamarrimanu parece una docena de árboles juntos porque es muy difícil ver su origen, su tronco principal.

Por supuesto, teniendo en cuenta que estamos hablando de la India, hay una leyenda y también algunas creencias religiosas sobre el árbol (como he dicho en algunas ocasiones, la gente india es muy supersticiosa), pero nuestro objetivo principal era ver el árbol y su magnificencia.

Aquel día también visitamos la ciudad de Kadiri, pero sobre eso voy a escribir en otra ocasión. Hoy os dejaré disfrutar del paisaje natural alrededor del árbol viendo algunas de las fotos que tenéis a continuación.
